Remember my blog "Genesis does what Nintendon't" from a while ago? I'm going to finish this two part blog by explaining aspects that were better about the Super Nintendo Entertainment System over the Sega Genesis. Because they are the best, without a doubt.
According to the technical specifications, the Super Nintendo is a more powerful console compared to the Genesis. For example, colors, simultaneous colors, resolution, and sprites were greater on Super Nintendo. One noticeable difference is that the speed is greater on Genesis, which is where "Blast Processing" came from. Both the SNES and Genesis are 16-bit, but the sound effects delight the ear much better on Super Nintendo. And the soundtrack had an epic cinematic and orchestral feel to them. The Genesis may be great, but most of my favorite games for the console were made my Sega themselves. The Super Nintendo got third party support from Konami, Capcom, and Square. As well as solid arcade ports like Final Fight and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.
The real icing on the cake is that Nintendo dropped multiple masterpieces on Super Nintendo. Genesis may have many consistent great games, but can you really name a true masterpiece on Genesis? Well 3 SNES games made my Top 10 games of all time and no Genesis made the cut (though Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was very close).
In the end, the Sega Genesis will always be my second favorite console, but Super Nintendo will always come up as first. But overall, Sega and Nintendo are like Coke and Pepsi, they all need each other in the end.
