In this two part blog, I will be giving two viewpoints from the epic battle of Sega vs. Nintendo. I'm not going to say which one I like better, because that will be another time. To begin this "self-debate" I will give my point as a Genesis fan. Oh yeah by the way, I will say that these two consoles are the two greatest of all time.
The year is 1989, and Nintendo is dominating the video game market. The success is so massive that even the arcades are wearing away. They are changing gaming (just like me) by creating revolutionary titles like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. They have chained locked big companies like Konami, Capcom, and Square to make stellar games for them. Sega has bit the dust, but they will rise up and give Nintendo it's first real competition. The new console hitting stores is the slick and cool Sega Genesis.
Not to spoil anything but, Sega does really well in the market. Despite the fact they would actually not "win" the battle vs Nintendo. Besides that, the Genesis has a cult following with many fans, including me. What aspects to me were better about Sega than Nintendo?
Sega had many arcade ports\better arcade ports than Nintendo. For example, Sega ported their own games to the console like Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and Out Run. Those are classic games, but they also got a port for Capcom's Strider. This port is considered one of the best Genesis games of all time. Nintendo got one too, but it stunk. Another plus for Sega was that they had many, and I mean many sports games. I mean really, I just got to have some sports games once and a while, and Sega put out great ones. On the other hand, Nintendo were nerds, and they didn't have many sports games. Speaking of that, Sega went after the older audience. To attract them, Sega was being edgy by having blood in their games. For instance, the Genesis port of Mortal Kombat featured blood, while the SNES version didn't. Finally, during the console war between the Genesis and Super Nintendo, Genesis seemed to be releasing more good games more often than the Super Nintendo. However Nintendo waited longer to release games, but they did arguably have more masterpieces than the Genesis did.
Okay, the next part of this blog I will state what made the NES\SNES better than the Genesis.
